7 Ways to Spring Clean and Organize Your Blog
With Spring approaching in a few short weeks, I’m on the path to spring clean every aspect of my life, which includes my blog. Spring cleaning isn’t just for the home anymore! With each new season, I like to tweak my blog a bit to reflect those changes. Springtime to me is all about freshness, lighter colors and organization. It’s also a great time to finish any major to do tasks for the admin part of your blog. Sometimes the behind the scenes stuff can pile up, now is the perfect time to work on it!
When it comes to my blog, I like to have be a bit refreshed for the new season. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram and the LIKEtoKNOW.it app to watch out for new spring cleaning ideas!
*Some of the below links are affiliate links and are at no additional cost to you. I have only included links to products that I have used myself and would recommend to others.*
Update Your About Me + Contact Pages
With every new season, I like to update my “About Me” section. There have been times where I forgot and I see that it says I’m the wrong age or something that isn’t true anymore. You can also insert a sentence or two about what’s going on during that season for you. Such as something Christmas related or what you’re doing over the summer. Are you working on something exciting that will make readers come back? Include all of that! I love reading people’s about me pages to get to know them a bit more. Do you have a new email for a contact? Do you even have a contact me page? Transferring over my blog, mine got lost in the mess, so I’m in the process of fixing that now!
Update Popular Links
With each new season, stores update their own websites and get rid of items that don’t fit that season. This means you linking that winter scarf in Christmas, won’t always work now. I try to do this with all of my popular posts. For example, if a post about what to pack when you travel is doing well, make sure that the links are updated. If you linked to a suitcase that isn’t available anymore, that won’t create any sales! If you use RewardStyle or another affiliate program, I go through every once in a while and make sure anything that I’m linking actually has a link. This weekend I’m planning on updating my “Shop My Closet” page to reflect items that are currently in stock!
Make Sure Privacy Policy + Disclosure is on All Pages
When I first began my blog, I didn’t have any affiliate or ad links, so I didn’t need a disclosure on my posts. However, over the year I have added quite a few, and had to go back and make sure the disclosure was on all of my pages. Regardless if I use an affiliate link or not, I add the disclosure to the top of every blog post in case I ever go back and add a link. I’d rather have it than not have it!
Finish/Delete Drafts
I don’t know about you guys, but I hate seeing a ton of drafts on my blog admin page! Sometimes I’ll start a blog post and not finish it or restart it a few months later. If you still love the idea, finish it! Or if you want to keep the idea but want to clear your drafts, write the idea down in a notebook! I have an entire bullet journal dedicated to my blog! I love being able to have an organized admin part of my blog so I don’t get distracted by the tons of unfinished drafts!
Add Affiliate Links to Old Blog Posts
Like I mentioned in the disclosure section above, when I first began my blog, I didn’t have any affiliate links. However, I would ideally like to have some on every blog post to help increase revenue. Once a month, I’ll go through old blog posts and add some, if I can, to them. If you have a ton of blog posts, I would see which ones are doing well/have the most traffic and focus on those. For example, one of my earlier blog posts was about smoothie bowl recipe, so I went in and added a link to the NutriBullet that I use!
Update Your Main Navigation
I love to change up my navigation depending on the time of year. If you’ve been following me for a couple months now, then I’m sure you’ll know what I’m talking about. Over the holidays, I added a “holiday” tab to my main navigation. Even though I could have easily put it under the “categories” section, I wanted it where anyone coming to my blog could see it. I did the same thing for Valentine’s day! If you haven’t switched up your navigation from the last holiday, it’s time to make some edits! You could do organization or spring cleaning or spring fashion! I’m still figuring out what I’ll do!
